Important Travel Update: New Visa Restrictions
Due to recent regional conflicts and security concerns, Iranian authorities have implemented temporary changes to tourist visa regulations:
- No Solo Travel: Independent/solo travel is currently suspended until further notice
- Mandatory Guided Tours: All tourists must be accompanied by a government-certified guide throughout their entire stay in Iran
- Pre-Approved Itineraries: Travel plans must be submitted and approved in advance through licensed Iranian tour operators
- Effective Immediately: These measures apply to all nationalities, including those previously eligible for visa-free entry
These are temporary security measures that may change with short notice. We recommend contacting the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or licensed tour operators for the most current information before making travel plans.
- Applying Too Late
Iran visas take 2-8 weeks. Apply at least 2 months before travel. - Wrong Passport Validity
Your passport must be valid for 6+ months AFTER your Iran entry date. - Not Checking Nationality Restrictions
Americans/Canadians/British need guided tours. Israelis cannot enter. - Forgetting the Authorization Code

4️⃣ Missing Authorization Code
- You need a reference number from:
- Iranian sponsor (hotel/tour company) OR
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (if traveling independently)
- No code = No visa
5️⃣ Assuming Visa-On-Arrival Works
- Only at: Tehran IKIA, Mashhad, Shiraz airports
- Risks:
- Airlines may deny boarding without pre-approval
- Long queues (2-4 hours)
- Rejection if you lack hotel bookings
